Senior wrestler JT Lazzara finishes second at Regionals.

Three Golden Eagle wrestlers competed in the IHSAA Regional at Pendleton Heights today.  Freshman Jeff Dunasky (132 pounds) was eliminated from competition after a hard fought first round loss to the top ranked Brayden Bailey from Cathedral.  Junior Korbin Lane and Senior JT Lazzara both advanced to the semi-finals, earning their way to next weekend’s Semi-State at New Castle.  Lane ended the day with a fourth place finish at 145.  Lazzara placed second at 160 after a loss in the finals to highly ranked Dru Berkbile from Frankton.  This marks the first time in school history that Guerin Catholic has qualified two wrestlers to the IHSAA Semi-State championships!  Congratulations to Korbin and JT on this special accomplishment.  Guerin Catholic also finished in 10th place in the Regional team race with 22 points.

Dunasky ends a stellar freshman campaign with an overall record of 29-15.  He leads the team in takedowns with 113.  Lazzara leads the team with 21 falls, and Lane leads the team in reversals with 16.

This coming Saturday at New Castle Korbin and JT will compete for chance to advance to the IHSAA State Championships at Bankers Life Fieldhouse on February 17-18.  You can follow the Semi-State competition live at www.trackwrestling.com.  Wrestling starts at 9:00am.
