Guerin Catholic Boys’ Volleyball Achieves First Program Win

286 Reads

The Golden Eagles found themselves with a great finish on Saturday as they participated in the 2017 Fishers March Madness tournament hosted by Fishers High School. The Golden Eagles found positives in every match yesterday where they were competing against some of the more established programs in the State, but experience became the overruling factor in their opening pool dropping matches to Lafayette Jefferson and Brebeuf Jesuit.

The second pool however gave the Golden Eagles a much needed confidence boost where for the first time in program history the Golden Eagles found themselves winning a set in dominating fashion over the Hamilton Southeastern Royals, but could not close the victory as Hamilton Southeastern bounced back to win the third set and the match. The Golden Eagles will get a chance at redemption however as they travel to the home of the Royals on Monday March 27th.

On the final match of the day, the Golden Eagles found themselves set for battle against the Bearcats of Muncie Central, which is in the city of Division I Mens’ Volleyball powerhouse the Ball State Cardinals. The Golden Eagles came out firing on all cylinders with an elite level of ball control and serving that the Bearcats could not compete with. When given the opportunity in offense, Guerin Catholic attacked with strength as they ended the match with a 42% kill percentage.

The program continues to take the right steps to success as they continue to look like one of the most fundamentally sounded programs in the State, and with the first victory under their belt, only more will follow. Golden Eagles will travel to Hamilton Southeastern on Monday, then play host to conference rival the Bishop Chatard Trojans on Thursday before their pre-spring break part of the season has concluded.
