On Tuesday evening, the depth of the Guerin Catholic girl’s swim team proved too much for a good Lawrence Central team to overcome, and the Golden Eagles swam to a 103-76 victory. Individual winners were Emme Goetz (50 and 100 Free), Grace Corman (Diving), and the 200 Free Relay team (Goetz, Danielle Hunckler, Evelyn Cacchillo, Stephanie Delancey). Clare Cline and Abby Maroney swam season-best times in the 500 Free, and, although she took second in the event, Catalina Dunasky swam a life-time best in the 100 Breast and broke the Guerin Catholic school record by a full second. Congratulations to Cat!
On Thursday evening, the girls headed to Muncie for a double-dual meet against Muncie Central and Heritage Christian whothe Golden Eagles defeated 60-42 and 65-37, respectively. Winning efforts were turned in by Danielle Hunckler (200 IM and 100 Fly), Clare Cline (100 Back), and Catalina Dunasky (100 Breast). In addition, the 200 Medley Relay (Cline, Dunasky, Hunckler, Emme Goetz), the 200 Free Relay (Dunasky, Steph Delancey, Elizabeth Lewis, Goetz), and the 400 Free Relay (Hunckler, Abby Maroney, Delancey, Dunasky) all finished in first place.
While the swim team always enjoys Muncie Central’s hospitality and a stiff athletic challenge, the meet with Muncie Central and Heritage Christian is also a yearly highlight for the post-meet prayer that the swimmers from all three schools offer up together.
The girls will be back in action next Thursday, December 8 when they take on Beech Grove and Scecina at Beech Grove High School.
