The Guerin Catholic Boys’ Volleyball inaugural season is underway and is in full motion. After four matches, the Golden Eagles are still looking for their first win. This task will not come easy however as the Golden Eagles have faced four top ten opponents, and a fifth one as they travel to Roncalli on March 23rd. The strength of schedule will help prepare this team for the future and ultimate goal. Each day, these boys see where we strive to be and we work hard to achieve that goal.
The Golden Eagles are already making some noise in the state though. In four matches, the program has already impressed some of the dominant forces in the state with their defensive play and serve-receive capability. Junior Jason Gandhi is leading the team with a serve receive average of 1.9 on the season in all combined matches while also averaging over ten digs a match on the season. With young leadership, the Golden Eagles rely heavily on the arm of Freshman outside Ben Persohn, but the quick development of the setting group has been crucial in the rising play of Sophomore Ethan Moster and Junior Dylan Stagge.
Week number two will wrap up on Saturday 3/25 as the Golden Eagles travel to Fishers for the annual Fishers Invite, where potential rematches against Carmel and Fishers are possible, but will the young team will need to get past conference rival Brebeuf Jesuit and Lafyette Jefferson to advance to the gold pool Saturday Afternoon. The first scheduled match against an non-ranked opponent is Monday 3/27 as they travel to Hamilton Southeastern where first year Head Coach Jill Bakle-Niehoff looks to change the face of the Royal program. Guerin Catholic will wrap their pre-spring break schedule up next Thursday as they play host to conference opponent Bishop Chatard.
