Earlier this week Guerin Catholic’s Matthew Godfrey signed his National Letter of Intent to attend DePauw University to continue his education and play basketball for the Tigers.
Selected First Team Academic All-State this past season, Godfrey was four-year basketball letterman and a key player in the Golden Eagles 2015 3A State Championship season as a sophomore. He leaves GC as the school’s fifth all-time leading scorer in boys basketball with 896 career points. Among the school records, he set while on the hardwood was his 91.9% accuracy at the free throw line this season, which tied him for 3rd in the state in best percentage.
Godfrey will join former teammate and 2014 GC graduate Cris Burrough on Coach Bill Fenlon’s DePauw basketball squad next season. Burrough was a forward on the 2012 Golden Eagles State Championship team. A contributing factor in Godfrey’s decision to attend DePauw was his acceptance into the school’s Management Fellows Program. He’ll join another former teammate and ’15 GC graduate Matt Labus in the program. The IHSAA Trester Award recipient for the ’15 state championship squad, Labus is now quarterback on the Tigers football team.
