With the unobstructed sunshine serving as the spotlight for seniors Megan Collilns, Julie Galina, Sarah Miller, Oksana Oleschuk, Kyra Schultz, Kelby Sullivan, and Kate Swift, the GC Softball team had an almost perfect Senior Night. The pregame festivities, including moms throwing out the first pitch to their senior daughters, got the evening off to a wonderful start.
The game was tight and included some memorable moments for the seniors as Senior Megan Collins stole the 100th base of her career early in the game. Unfortunately as far as the game goes the Golden Eagles couldn’t put much together. The greatest GC threat came in the bottom of the 6th with bases loaded and the score 4-1. Sophomore Maddie Buckner drove in a run with a ground ball to second base to draw the Golden Eagles a little closer. That would be as close as the game would get from that point as GC fell to North Central 6-2. Junior Caitlin Collins and Sophomore Olivia Nystrom each had two hits on the night.
Despite the loss, the best part of the night took place after the game inside the school as the seniors reflected on the past four years at Guerin Catholic. Tears flowed freely as each of the seven seniors shared their gratitude for each other, the underclassmen, the coaches, and their parents. The impact they have had on the program and the program has had on them was undeniable. The night was one more example of the special place we have in Guerin Catholic.
