At the Sellick Bowl on Butler University’s campus, Guerin Catholic competed with Penn for the IHSAA class AAA State Championship.
The Kingsmen put early pressure on the Golden Eagles, and the massive Golden Eagle crowd saw GCWS weather a heavy storm from the defending state champions. The Golden Eagles would settle in, and were able to begin piecing some of their own ideas together. The best look from GCWS came in the 21′ when sophomore Anna Schulthies was denied by Penn’s GK.
The two teams went in to the half 0-0.
Though the Golden Eagles found a bit of rhythm to start the second half, Penn Struck first at 56′, and followed a second time 7′ later. Despite a handful of quality looks by the Golden Eagles in the second half, they were inches away from finding the net on each of their chances.
The final ended at a 0-2 score, and Penn HS secured their second consecutive state title.
We would like to thank our student body and community for all of your support through the tournament, and the surreal environment you were able to create for us at Butler last Friday…you are second to none!
