The Guerin Catholic girls swim team swam at Lawrence Central last Tuesday against the host Bears, and did just enough to capture a 96-89 victory. Freshman Mary Kate Cline lead the way with individual wins in the 100 Back and 100 Fly (with a new school record), as well as pacing the 200 Free Relay team to a first-place finish and the 200 Medley Relay to a second-place finish. Other notable swim performances were turned in by Danielle Hunckler, Stephanie DeLancey, Catalina Dunasky, Clare Cline, and Kate Swack. Most impressively, Emma Abdalla, Grace Corman, and Raegan Bohbrink finished 1-2-3 in the diving competition, which proved to be hugely instrumental in the team win.
On Thursday, the team traveled to Muncie Central to compete in a “double dual” meet against Muncie Central and Heritage Christian. Individual winners included Stephanie DeLancey (200 Free), Danielle Hunckler (200 IM and 100 Fly), Mary Kate Cline (50 Free and 100 Free), Clare Cline (500 Free and 100 Back), Kate Swack (100 Breast), and Emma Abdalla (diving). These and other fast swims helped Guerin Catholic defeat Muncie Central 81-21 and Heritage Christian 67-35.
The girls are back in the water next Thursday, December 7 when they take on Scecina Memorial and Beech Grove in a 3-way meet, and then again Saturday, December 9 when they compete in the 6-team Husky Invite at Hamilton Heights.
